You've just arrived in Luxembourg or are considering moving here? Your neighborhood choice will determine your quality of life for years to come.Despite its small size, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, spanning approximately 82 km from north to south and 57 km from east to west, covers an area of nearly 2,586 km². The northernmost commune is Troisvierges, while Rumelange marks the country's southern extreme. To the west, border communes with Belgium, particularly in the cantons of Capellen and Redange, form the western boundary, while to the east, communes along the Moselle, such as Wormeldange or Grevenmacher, define the eastern border.
Yet, housing price disparities are significant: from €5,900/m² in the North to €9,000-14,000/m² (depending on condition: new, old...) in the capital's premium neighborhoods.
This four-part series explores the different regions of the Grand Duchy. Today: Northern Luxembourg.
Northern Luxembourg: More Than a Budget Alternative
The North has long been perceived as "too far away". Things are changing. Remote work, free public transport, and the search for quality of life are redrawing the map according to new criteria: clean air, open views, proximity to nature, sources of inspiration and energy.
The facts:
* Price per m²: 30 to 40% lower than Luxembourg City
* Commute time to capital: 30 to 90 minutes depending on location
* Immediate access to nature (forests, rivers, lakes, vast wilderness areas)
* Over 40 hiking trails certified by the European Ramblers Association
* International schools within reasonable proximity
💚 Our Personal Favorite - Marc and Nathalie:
A perfect day in Clervaux during the Christmas season starts with a morning forest hike, followed by a lunch break in Eselborn. In the afternoon, treat yourself to a relaxing vespers session at the abbey. On the way back, in the winter twilight, the Christmas market appears as if by magic. The perfect moment for a well-deserved mulled wine.
It's this kind of day that reminds us why we love Northern Luxembourg so much.
